Guide To Poker Tournament Strategy

There are a variety of poker tournaments. There are MTT's, Freezeouts, Freerolls, Bounty, Guaranteed, Rebuy, Sit and Go's, and many more. The more the number of tournaments the more rules, but the most played tournaments are freerolls and MTT's. When you play these tournaments on poker sites in India you will see the different types and how to play them. A lot of people end up playing poker for the tournaments given their huge pot sizes that are otherwise not achievable in cash games.

A poker tournament is essentially a game that has a fixed format and everything such as the blinds, the stacks, the buy-ins are all predetermined. When you sign up you will know when you have to show up for the tournament and start playing. This varies for Sit and Go's as these tournaments only start when the tables are full. Tournaments have levels and each level is different than the other. Depending on your skill and expertise you can decide which tournament you want to join. Having said this, there are ways and strategies that can help you become a great tournament player. Poker needs strategies and we all need them at some point. A few of them are listed below.

  1. The pre-ante levels matter and this is what you should know, especially if you are playing MTT's. When you start the tournament from the beginning you get a sense of all the players and the mood of the game. The weak players usually end up revealing themselves at the initial level making it easier for you to play.
  2. Do not ever lose sight of your big blinds. Your stack is an important thing in tournaments and you cannot lose it. Never play more than you can afford at a tournament table.
  3. Make sure to bet the correct size when at a tournament table. Be in line with the table bettings and do not put yourself in the spotlight when doing that. There are two types of bettings - pre-flop and post-flop.
  4. Towards the end of the game, you should be more aggressive about your play, look around for players that you can get the better off, and play the blinds carefully - steal them every chance you get.

These are a few of the strategies you can follow while playing tournaments. Play poker online for money only after you have honed your skills at your strategies.
